A constant assault on reality
Pink, who is Jewish, on the 6th of September, amplified criticism of Macklemore for speaking out for Palestine on stage1.
This went so badly for her that she had to...
retreat with a more than 1000 word essay five days later, where she didn't even apologize, but attempted to explain herself2. The best response to this is of course, "I'm not reading all that. Free Palestine".
But it's useful to go through the many flaws in Pink's ramble because it explains how some can still, in 2026, support the genocide committed against the Palestinian people.
The first is that she dismisses what is clearly a genocide as 'a complex war'. It's not. It's a struggle between an oppressor who won't even allow unfettered aid in to a completely destroyed strip of land and the oppressed struggling to survive in the ruins and resist their concentration camp conditions. It doesn't get any simpler than that.
The second is that she dismisses Macklemore's statement clearly separating criticism of the State of Israel from criticism of Jewish People with a pithy:
You don't get to decide that for us.
Which very much conflates the State of Israel with all Jewish people. It goes so far that she even implies that bashing criticism of the State of Israel, as she did, is somehow equivalent to:
standing up for her own people
To say something like this in response to criticism of the State of Israel is not sane.
This equation is, of course, very easy to debunk by pointing out all the Jewish people who absolutely loathe Israel, such as Sim Kern, Jonathan Glazer, Molly Crabapple, Hannah Einbender etc. and and all the non Jewish people who are complete supporters of it, such as Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Barack Obama, and Mark Carney.
But nevertheless this delusional conflation enables the next problem, which is by equating the two, she turns the criticism of Israel into a legitimate source of fear for Jewish people.
And that fear, becomes more important to her than the Palestinians being massacred by Israel. That Macklemore is speaking out for Palestinians, and against genocide, is not relevant (and in fact is reduced to just 'litigating a complex war' in her words). All that's important is that is that he's causing Jewish people fear.
This prioritization of Jewish fears over Palestinian lives is exactly what justifies the horrors Palestinians are going through, because those crimes are being committed, in a very real way, so that Pink, and the Jewish people who feel like her, can feel safe. These Jewish fears loom so large in Pink's words that the only reason she can conceive of being criticized is the critics believing her to be a 'villain' for 'not apologizing for existing as a Jew'.
It's a weak argument, the whole thing is weak, and it has been from the moment the modern political movement of Zionism began.
The hopeful thing is that not only did she have to back off from her initial repost, but also her attempt to defend herself by spending a whole Friday writing an essay, also failed. She's rightfully being dragged in the comments and social media and that is necessary to keep Israel supporters from rewriting what has happened and is happening.
